Abstract

Sustainable entrepreneurship (SE) is gaining attention for its potential to mitigate negative externalities of entrepreneurial activity and address today's pressing social and environmental challenges (Bonfanti et al., 2024). However, in the Anthropocene era, marked by accelerating ecological disruptions and the reaching of planetary boundaries (Richardson et al., 2023), entrepreneurs increasingly face the challenge of pursuing sustainability goals with limited resources (Voltan & De Fuentes, 2024). Resource constraints thereby emerge as a central concern in sustainable entrepreneurial action (Khan et al., 2023). While the concept of Entrepreneurial Resourcefulness (ER) is increasingly recognized for fostering creative solutions in resource-scarce contexts (Williams et al., 2024), it remains underexplored in the field of SE (Carolina et al., 2024). Furthermore, existing ER research is still nascent (Lange et al., 2024) and paid limited attention to socio-environmental issues, leading to a fragmented and conceptually underdeveloped literature bridging these two areas. We address this gap through a systematic framework-based review (Paul et al., 2024), to examine when, how, and to what extent ER intersects with SE. Our objective is to map and structure the field, develop a conceptual framework that deepens of ER's role in fostering sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives within resource-constrained, and propose a future theory-driven research agenda.
