Abstract

Aims and Objectives:This study aims to examine women refugees' engagement in social entrepreneurial reskilling drawing on microfoundations of knowledge based dynamic capabilities. Literature presents female refugee social entrepreneurs with distinct features based on severity, persistence (Harima & Freudenberg, 2020), and adversity (Al-Dajani, 2019; Eggerman et al., 2023). Yet, this phenomenon remains under researched (Abebe, 2023; Newman et al., 2023;Soliman et al., 2023).Background: For women refugees, "Entrepreneurial reskilling is not merely a tool for upward social mobility, but also economic stability" (Jabbari et al., 2023:2). Hitherto, inadequately researched and deserves more attention from migration, and integration scholarship. Moreover current literature shows that women refugees reskilling opportunities are still stratified across gender, race/ethnic, and socio-economic status based on institutional mechanisms (Jabbari et al., 2024). Research also indicates the cumulative unprecedented social disadvantages refugees face in entrepreneurial programs. Such as; skill deficiencies (Refai et al., 2024), downgraded skills, and lack of cultural cohesion (Refai & McElwee, 2023). Literature on the French context shows the relevance of research and development facilities, accelerators, and digital reskilling process (Messeghem et al., 2023). Yet, less is known about how women refugees access these entrepreneurial reskilling initiatives. This study bridges these gaps and responds to the following question: How do the microfoundations of knowledge-based capability development in social entrepreneurial reskilling influence women's refugee social opportunities in France? The French context was found to be suitable for this study as its ecosystem currently focuses on entrepreneurial skills (Messeghem et al., 2023; Messeghem and Cloutier, 2023).
