Abstract

Les régions ultrapériphériques (RUP), éparpillées partout dans le monde, se distinguent par leur éloignement des grands centres économiques, leur isolement forcé et leurs singularités culturelles et sociales. Souvent perçus d'abord comme des lieux touristiques « sea, sand and sun », ils sont aussi marqués par des fragilités structurelles qui rendent particulièrement vulnérables face aux crises. Ils se caractérisent souvent à la fois par une superficie réduite et une topographie (montagneuse, volcanique, couverte de forêts denses, etc.) qui ne facilite pas l'exploitation de la surface disponible et le développement de l'économie.
