Abstract

Inspired by the Toyota Product System (Ohno, 1988), the lean approach, formalized in the 1990s, gradually spread to various sectors, and in the early 2000s, it was adopted by hospitals. Although lean is described as a socio-technical system (Marodin and Saurin, 2013), there is still a lack of work on the human dimension in order to grasp the globality of the approach. Based on the research question: how is the human dimension constructed around the technicality of lean healthcare? This article aims to specify the human stakes of the lean approach by specifying the evolution of professional interactions generated by its technicality. From a research-intervention, we identify the dynamics of professional interactions around lean tools that appear as regulators of social relations.
