Abstract

The aim of this article is to show, using an example, the heuristic power of a particular inductive statistical treatment, namely latent profile analysis (LPA). Applied to the concept of well-being at work, they allow first to reveal the profiles existing in a sample of 496 employees. A sequential procedure, drawing successively on a battery of quantitative indicators and a qualitative graphical reading, is necessary for this. Based on a simple intuition rather than a series of hypotheses justified by theoretical argumentation, it then becomes possible to show that the propensity to mind wander constitutes an antecedent of the probability of belonging to the high well-being profile. This example thus reveals how quantitative exploratory reasoning based on LPAs can contribute to an emerging academic discussion in the field of organizational behavior.
