Abstract

Despite the energy stakes involved, the development momentum for applications of solar energy for process heat is slow. The cost of investment is certainly a brake on development, but the challenges in terms of processes (quasi-continuous operation, integration at existing systems, transients) are significant and contribute to the sector's sluggishness. Over the next few years, constraints on the reduction of CO 2 emissions should give the sector a boost. In terms of research and development, the field of high-temperature (>400 C) solar heat production and integration into industrial processes is a highly open, multidisciplinary field. Hybrid processes (PV CSP, biomass solar, geothermal solar, etc.) offer a rich spectrum of options in the European and French context. A structuring project has been set up in France (Cadre France 2030) in the field of solar heat for industry.
