What resilience for territories specializing in the tourism sector?

Abstract

"The tourism sector is vulnerable, regardless of the nature of the crisis it faces (natural disasters, terrorist attacks, volcanic activity, pandemics, etc.). The COVID-19 crisis and its consequences on the tourism sector have led to a rethinking of the notion of tourism specialization for the growth and economic recovery of tourist areas. Therefore, in this study, we ask whether, in the face of various crises, changes in the tourism sector, and climate change, does tourism specialization as we know it still represent a sustainable growth model for regions? Furthermore, through a comparison between two Mediterranean regions (Corsica and the Balearic Islands), we seek to identify the structuring factors of the tourism offerings of the two regions that could explain the observed differences in resilience."
