Abstract

In the context of digital capitalism and weakened journalism, leakers have emerged as ambiguous actors revealing confidential organizational information. Unlike whistleblowers or investigative journalists, they operate in a grey zone between transgression and complicity. Drawing on the concepts of asebeia and eusebeia, this study explores how leakers may challenge or reinforce power structures. A netnographic analysis of a Reddit forum reveals their dual role: promoting transparency while contributing to the commodification of information. Their actions raise questions about democracy, secrecy, and power, showing how disclosure can simultaneously disrupt and sustain organizational norms within an attention-driven, platform-dominated information economy.
