Abstract

Alpha is a multi-territorialized meta-organization (M-O) in the midst of a process of change. This communication aims to characterize, in an abductive way, the specific strategic challenges it encounters. We achieve this by first introducing a brief review of the literature on M-O and meta-strategizing on the one hand, as well as on place/placeness on the other hand, then by presenting our qualitative research approach and finally by analyzing the results of a classification of the discourses drawn from the 31 interviews conducted. This work offers a double contribution: on the epistemological level, a grid of four "place" principles (localization, uniqueness, delimitation, interrelation) to analyze the strategy/strategizing of a territorially based M-O, and on the theoretical level, 2) a return to the paradigm of placeification as a reflexive posture in strategy. On an empirical level, the meta-strategic practices identified around four challenges (harmonization of singularities, administration of proof of local specificity, centralization of mutualizable resources, search for new financial resources without getting lost) constitute a potentially inspiring repertoire.
