Abstract

Nous développons un référentiel théorique qui conceptualise la décision d'adopter une technologie donnée en mobilisant un modèle de diffusion épidémiologique et un modèle des choix rationnels d'adoption. Les deux modèles sont estimés à partir d'un échantillon de 114 agriculteurs localisés à l'île de la Réunion. Les résultats montrent que la diffusion de la couverture intégrale pour l'aspersion répond à une dynamique spontanée avec effets d'entraînement collectif. Une politique de subvention, dans ce cas-là, permet d'accélérer le rythme de diffusion. L'adoption d'une technologie d'irrigation améliorée avec automatismes répond plus à un choix rationnel de la part des irrigants les plus diversifiés, les mieux informés et au rapport surface par actif le plus important.
