Abstract

This research aims to extend the scope of the theory of planned behaviour to environmental actions in mountain resorts. Results show that the attitude towards an environmentally friendly resort, subjective norms regarding environmental responsibility and perceived behaviour control towards the choice of a mountain resort positively influence the intention to visit an environmentally friendly resort. It is also influenced by environmental knowledge and environmental awareness, but indirectly (via attitude and subjective norms for environmental knowledge, and perceived behaviour control for environmental concern). Results also confirm the moderating effect of mountain attendance. Understanding these mechanisms is useful for those involved in the governance of environmentally friendly resorts to improve their communication strategy on environmental matters.
