Métaux et transition énergétique : vers de nouvelles dépendances?

Abstract

Les questions minérales font un retour remarqué dans l'actualité. En Europe, mines et métaux ont été malencontreusement rangés dans le placard de l'histoire industrielle. La transition énergétique et les nouvelles dépendances qu'elle engendre viennent fracturer la porte de ce placard oublié. L'effraction est violente : sommes-nous en train de troquer la dépendance aux énergies fossiles pour une dépendance aux métaux ? Nous avons collectivement vécu dans l'illusion d'une offre de métaux abondante, assurée par un secteur concurrentiel et ne présentant pas d'enjeux géoéconomiques. La prise de conscience est brutale : les questions géostratégiques, économiques et industrielles soulevées par l'extraction et la transformation des matières premières sont un angle mort de la transition énergétique. Ces questions sont au cœur de l'ouvrage proposé par Emmanuel Hache et Benjamin Louvet. Expert académique, le Dr Hache mène depuis une dizaine d'années des travaux de recherche sur le sujet. Il a notamment dirigé le récent projet GENERATE (Géopolitique des énergies renouvelables et analyse prospective de la transition énergétique) financé par l'Agence nationale de la recherche. Gérant d'actif spécialisé dans les matières premières, Benjamin Louvet apporte le regard du praticien.
