Abstract

Containment, deception and misdirection, use of surprise, forces passage, pincer movement, disinformation, jamming: these are techniques currently used by the armed forces but they could be used to describe the manner in which senior management in some corporate bodies have curtailed and even destroyed the power of their trade unions. These techniques represent the microscopic phenomena which amplify the effects of the macroscopic phenomena qhich have arisen through globalisation, such as the threat of relocation. Basing our study on a concrete case, we aim to draw attention to some of the strategies used to upset the balance of power between management and labour representatives.
