Abstract

Lorsqu'une institution grandit, elle gère ce qu'elle peut mesurer. Face à ce défi, la plupart des institutions de microfinance (IMF) ont cherché à professionnaliser leurs pratiques en s'appuyant sur des dispositifs d'évaluation financière. Ce faisant, elles ont parfois délaissé le pendant social de leur activité, entraînant des dérives de mission. On voit aujourd'hui se renforcer un nouveau courant de la mesure, centré sur les performances sociales et la protection des clients. Acteur déterminant de la microfinance en Afrique de l'Ouest, la CIF constitue aussi l'un des principaux mouvements coopératifs du continent. Cette spécificité coopérative l'a conduit à aborder les enjeux liés à l'évaluation de ses performances avec une approche propre, croisant des considérations techniques et gestionnaires avec le souci d'alimenter un mode de gouvernance participatif.
