Abstract

Strategic work – strategizing – is difficult to seize, in particular when it comes to its occurrences outside of executives' meetings deliberately organized for this purpose. In this paper, we explore the ability of a specific unit of analysis, the strategic episode (Hendry and Seidl, 2003), to ease this challenge and to allow for the study of a wide range of strategizing occurrences. Based on a systematic literature review, we suggest several research paths in order for this concept to achieve its full potential. In doing so, this paper aims at helping researchers to better seize all strategizing occurrences, notably beyond its formal exercise.
