Abstract

L'objectif de cette recherche est d'établir une cartographie historique de la représentation que le grand public se fait du commerce en France puis aux Etats-Unis et en Grande-Bretagne. Cette étude exploratoire cherche (1) à identifier le type d'imaginaire marchand spécifique à ces aires culturelles, (2) à en définir les contours et évolutions et (3) à spécifier les attentes ou réticences nationales vis-à-vis de la sphère commerciale. Pour mener à bien cette investigation, nous nous sommes appuyées sur un média de masse, le cinéma, dont la production donne un accès au temps long en couvrant la période 1895 à nos jours.
