Abstract

This contribution consists in an analysis of an evaluation method for sustainable development co-constructed with the Pas-de-Calais departmental council (France). This method has been jointly developed within the framework of the departmental council's supporting policy for social economy. Starting with a reminder of this policy's background, the paper later moves on to the presentation of the methodology employed. Then, six markers of economic, societal and environmental transformation are delineated, presented through their scales, and illustrated with examples. The implementation of this evaluation tool, which took place during the 2020 edition of the Pas-de-Calais departmental council's "citizens' budget", is assessed thereafter. Finally, the paper draws some lessons from this approach, especially regarding previous works about the links between sustainable development and social economy, about sustainable development's indicators, and about the interplay between social innovation and sustainability.
