Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to assess the socio-economic impacts of satellite-based Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) on public environmental, agricultural and territorial policies. We rely on the GEOSUD SDI based in Montpellier. A detailed analysis of the spatial information downloaded through the GEOSUD SDI allowed to characterize the public policies involved in this field, in order to examine the effects related to GEOSUD's action. The hypothesis is that, a free access to satellite information for research organizations and public services increases the uses to this type of data. Moreover, it generates savings and significant efficiency gains for public services.
