Dix ans d'indépendance balte : D'une Union à l'autre ?

Abstract

Les trois Etats baltes occupent une position unique parmi les Etats issus du bloc communiste. Ils ont été assujettis à un contrôle politique et à une répression d'une force similaire aux autres Républiques de l'URSS ; leurs économies ont été totalement intégrées au système économique soviétique et ils ont été coupés de presque tout contact politique, économique et culturel avec l'étranger. En revanche, ils avaient une histoire récente d'indépendance nationale. Dans ce sens, ils ressemblent aux Etats d'Europe centrale, où les Républiques indépendantes de l'entre-deux-guerres sont restées une source importante d'identification pour les dissidents et les mouvements d'opposition pendant la période communiste. Cela explique que l'Estonie, la Lettonie et la Lituanie soient devenues l'avant- garde de la double révolte contre le communisme et contre l'hégémonie de Moscou...
