Abstract

Este artículo analiza la historia de la economía cubana durante un período muy largo. Su primera parte, que se ofrece aquí (la segunda seguirá próximamente), está dedicada al período que se extiende desde 1492, cuando la isla fue "descubierta", hasta 1898, cuando terminó la Guerra de la Independencia. En primer lugar, se presenta el período de la conquista de Cuba, seguido por el colapso de la sociedad indígena en el caos y el establecimiento de una división racial del trabajo. Luego es el turno del saqueo de la isla y la inserción de su economía en el sistema mundial capitalista –inserción caracterizada por una serie de no industrializaciones.
