Abstract

COVID-19 has shut down large sectors of the economy, as well as entire education systems. UNESCO estimates (https://en.unesco.org/covid19/educationresponse) show that by the end of 2020, around 90% of the world's students were out of school due to their school closure. University campuses and lecture halls around the world have long remained empty. Teaching and learning has moved mainly online and the use of remote video conferencing has become mainstream. These changes have affected adult education programs, much of which relies on face-to-face activities. Without pretending to predict the future, here we reflect on how this situation could evolve for adult learners. Specifically, from our experience at university, we are exploring potentially interesting developments of video chat applications like Zoom, Teams or Discord in adult education.
