Abstract

The aim of the article is to examine institutional mechanisms encouraging the sustainable managing of common pool resources in Madagascar. First, we explore how different forms of social capital are produced within ties network of Manjakatompo, and affect positively the self-governance of forest resources. After having analyzed the organization of ties network, as a structure of governance on the one hand; and examined sociocultural and institutional specificities of these networks on the other hand, we study the production of social capital from these networks. That allows us to explore the link between social capital and the efficiency of the self-governance and the sustainability of natural resources in this region.
