Abstract

The number of farmers is constantly decreasing and farmers are getting older in all EU member states. This situation is the result of a profound transformation of the agricultural production sector, sought and supported by both the CAP and national agricultural policies. Today, the renewal of the active population is one of the nine objectives of the post-2020 CAP. This article reviews recent changes in the European agricultural workforce and provides an overview of the various CAP measures and national policies that have a direct or indirect impact on the number and type of jobs in agriculture.
