Abstract

Cet article appréhende les dynamiques de l'économie informelle mahoraise au regard de la récente « départementalisation » du territoire, fruit d'un long processus de convergence vers les standards institutionnels métropolitains ayant débuté dès les années 1970. Après avoir montré l'intérêt du recours au concept d'économie morale pour esquisser les contours de l'économie informelle mahoraise, cet article interroge la permanence d'une éthique de subsistance qui structure une économie dont les changements institutionnels impactent les sphères d'échanges. Il analyse ensuite l'évolution de la gouvernance du foncier au cours des trois dernières décennies et ses effets sur l'économie informelle, notamment dans les secteurs de l'agriculture et de la construction. Une telle approche permet enfin de souligner le rôle compensatoire de l'économie informelle face aux incertitudes provoquées par une départementalisation mal préparée.
