Abstract

Beyond the different types of capitalism that have emerged or succeeded one another since the 1950s, the reduction of the status of the firm to a mechanism exclusively serving the immediate interest of its associates has contributed to the current ecological and social crises. To overcome them, this article reflects on the conditions under which entrepreneurial freedom should be exercised. This requires a revision of the law in order to give more power to stakeholders and a concerted effort by states to put an end to illegitimate tax optimisation. This article questions the sanctity of private property and attempts to rethink the mission of business and the state in the areas of money, labour and natural resources through the lens of the commons.
