Abstract

Le journal de bord du chercheur est un outil au service de la rechercha alors de phases d'observation. Il consiste en un document (physique ou numérique) dans lequel le chercheur consigne un ensemble d'informations: « à propos de lui-même, ses pensées, ses réflexions, ses réactions, la qualité des rapports lors de ses premiers contacts avec le/les sites de rechercheainsi qu'avec les personnes impliquées. On y retrouve aussi des notes qui ont trait à la dimension méthodologique » (Mucchielli, 2009, p. 130). Sorte de « mémoire vive » du chercheur, l'utilisation du journal de bord souffre toutefois d'une vision souvent simpliste où le rôle de cet outil n'est pas suffisamment pensé pour constituer un véritable appui au travail de construction scientifique. Ce chapitre considère que le journal de bord du chercheur doit trouver une place plus importante dans le processus de construction théorique. Par conséquent, il propose une forme particulière de journal, appelée journal de bord sibyllique. Outre la proposition de structuration et systématisation de la rédaction du journal de bord, cet outil intègre une dimension prédictive des observations à venir visant une meilleure construction théorique ainsi qu'une réflexivité plus aboutie.
