Abstract

La collection de bandes dessinées autour du personnage de Bécassine (parue dans un magazine et en albums) est révélatrice de l'évolution des mentalités, de la société, des mœurs de part et d'autre de la Première Guerre mondiale. Or ce personnage populaire, mal dégrossi au contact de la vie dans les grandes villes et parfois même naïf, se retrouve confronté aux retombées du conflit dans la vie quotidienne, tant des bourgeoisies que du peuple. Bécassine participe même en direct aux formes du travail de quasi-mobilisée ou se retrouve insérée dans des aventures au plus près de la vie militaire. On comprend que nombre d'éléments aient pu être puisés dans cinq albums afin de nourrir une étude de cas académique, plutôt centrée sur la rupture socio-mentale imposée par la guerre dans nombre de strates de la société.
