Abstract

Cet article établit tout d'abord un parallèle entre le développement agricole des dernières décennies et la croissance des nuisances subies par l'environnement, en particulier la pollution par les nitrates. Il passe ensuite en revue différentes politiques de contrôle des nuisances d'origine agricole. Il examine tout d'abord l'application du principe pollueur-payeur, par l'intermédiaire des Agences de Bassin, aux élevages intensifs. Il discute ensuite la mise en œuvre de politiques qui visent a encourager des pratiques agricoles plus respectueuses de la qualité du milieu naturel (contrôle de l'érosion, de l'épandage des lisiers et de la fertilisation). Quelques développements portent sur l'agriculture biologique et les mécanismes administratifs et juridiques existant en France.
