Abstract

La somatotropine bovine (BST) permet d'accroitre la production des vaches laitieres dans certaines conditions, en particulier d'alimentation. Des etudes budgetaires a partir de cas types montrent que ce produit peut etre un outil d'intensification dans les elevages, malgre la contrainte des quotas et a condition de pouvoir introduire des activites de substitution. La souplesse d'utilisation permet d'envisager soit un emploi systematique, soit un emploi strategique. Le recours a une telle technique relance les debats politiques, economiques et sociaux sur l'avenir de l'exploitation laitiere et plus generalement du secteur agricole.
