Abstract

Les problèmes d'intrusion d'eau salée dans les aquifères côtiers constituent aujourd'hui l'une des principales causes de détérioration de la qualité de leurs eaux. L'eau de mer, plus dense que l'eau douce, envahit ces aquifères dès que les prélèvements sont suffisamment intenses pour modifier l'équilibre hydrostatique. L'objet de cet article est d'identifier les problèmes particuliers posés par la gestion optimale de ce type de ressource. On montre qu'une intensification des prélèvements a pour conséquence d'éloigner de la côte la frontière au-delà de laquelle, vers l'intérieur des terres, on peut prélever de façon permanente. Cette relation, entre volumes prélevés et positionnement obligés des points de prélèvement, est génératrice d'une externalité spécifique, dont on analyse les effets sur l'usage optimal de la ressource.
