Abstract

Cet article se propose d'apprécier la fiabilité des résultats d'une évaluation contingente en estimant la sensibilité des valeurs obtenues au mode d'interrogation utilisé : interviews directes ou enquête postale. Pour tester l'hypothèse d'indépendance des réponses au mode d'interrogation utilisé, les auteurs comparent les résultats de deux études d'évaluation contingente menées pour évaluer les bénéfices associés à la préservation de la qualité de la ressource en eau souterraine de la plaine de Bièvre-Liers (Isère). Près de 60% des personnes interrogées par enquête postale refusant de répondre à la question de révélation de leur disponibilité à payer, les auteurs utilisent, pour estimer la disponibilité à payer moyenne de deux échantillons, une procédure en deux étapes développée par J.-J. Heckman (1979) permettant de tester l'absence de biais d'auto-sélection. Les résultats de l'étude font apparaître une différence significative des disponibilités à payer moyennes estimées pour les deux enquêtes.
