Abstract

Depuis une dizaine d'années, les grandes entreprises polluantes ont été de plus en plus nombreuses à adopter une attitude active face à la protection de l'environnement. Ces initiatives des industriels en matière d'environnement ont pris le nom d'approches volontaires. Le recours croissant à ce type d'approches suscite des interrogations quant à leur aptitude à protéger l'environnement de manière efficace. Peut-on compter sur les entreprises pour contribuer au développement durable de manière crédible et responsable ? Dans quelle mesure, et sous quelles conditions, les approches volontaires peuvent-elles remplacer ou compléter les instruments traditionnels de régulation environnementale ? L'auteur propose une analyse critique de la littérature académique sur les approches volontaires et une réflexion sur les pistes de recherche pertinentes pour la compléter.
