Manpower flows management by firms : the urban-rural differentials

Abstract

Plus le marché du travail est important, plus les entreprises ont des chances de trouver sur ce marché un individu correspondant exactement aux exigences d'un poste de travail vacant et plus un salarié à la recherche d'un emploi a de chances de se voir proposer une offre d'emploi correspondant précisément à ses compétences. En conséquence, toutes choses égales par ailleurs (en particulier taille de la firme et qualifications), les entreprises devraient éprouver moins de difficultés de recrutement et recourir davantage au marché externe dans les villes que dans les zones rurales. Pour tester ces hypothèses on a utilisé les résultats d'une enquête menée dans la région Midi-Pyrénées par la Chambre régionale de commerce et d'industrie auprès d'un échantillon de 1 500 entreprises. On montre que lorsqu'on contrôle, pour la taille et le secteur, les entreprises rurales éprouvent des difficultés de recrutement plus fortes que leurs homologues urbaines, quand elles sont exigeantes en termes d'expérience et de formation et qu'elles embauchent moins, mais pour de plus longues durées et enregistrent moins de départs. Ce dernier résultat vaut surtout pour les petites entreprises.
