Abstract

Changes in land use have significant impacts on the quality of the environment (biodiversity, water pollution, soil erosion and carbon sequestration). These changes are influenced by socioeconomic factors, pedo-climatic, demographic and public policy variables. In France, changing patterns of land is marked by the conversion of agricultural land to forests, urban and no-use. This abandonment of agricultural already begun for many decades to urbanization, mark an acceleration of the last fifteen years for the benefit of wooded areas. This article describes the changes in land use in France, during the period 1992-2003 by analyzing the dynamics of these changes and their geographical variability. The study was conducted using data from the TERUTI survey.
