Abstract

Après avoir rappelé comment appréhender le système spatial des villes dites intermédiaires, les auteurs soulignent les grandes caractéristiques de ces systèmes spatiaux, sur les plans sociologique, économique et politique. Ils présentent ensuite les hypothèses et les principaux déterminants qui, à ces trois niveaux, soustendent les scénarios élaborés sur l'avenir des territoires des villes intermédiaires à l'horizon 2040. Après une description plus précise des 4 scénarios alternatifs, les auteurs montrent l'apport de leur analyse des villes intermédiaires à l'exercice prospectif Territoires 2040 sous l'angle d'une part, de la mise en capacité de tous les territoires et d'autre part, de la coordination entre les territoires et les acteurs.
