Abstract

La condition humaine a quelque chose de tragique : nous naissons pour souffrir et mourir. Mais les hommes ont tendance à chercher à l'oublier ; ils occupent leur temps avec mille activités que Pascal, dans ses Pensées, qualifie de divertissements. A l'opposé, les handicapés ne peuvent l'oublier : leur invalidité leur rappelle, dans leur corps ou leur psychisme, la condition humaine. Et, à moins de tomber dans le déni, voire la folie, ils portent en eux un témoignage d'espérance, celui que toute vie vaut la peine d'être vécue.Ce témoignage, Eric de Châteauvieux, aveugle de naissance, en a fait le moteur de sa vie : à sept ans, il a décidé de «faire confiance et de foncer». C'est ainsi qu'il a « sublimé » sa souffrance, selon ses propres termes. Depuis, il déploie son énergie auprès de ses proches et de ses collègues, au risque de les bousculer dans leurs certitudes. Sa mission : écouter, prier, semer l'espérance. Il le constate : «finalement, mon handicap m'a permis d'ouvrir mon cœur». Une belle façon de se montrer solidaire ? Donnons-lui la parole.
