Abstract

For a growing number of companies, hiring handicapped individuals represents a significant challenge. The first part of this article explains why it is important for companies to offer employment to the disabled, while the second part describes the type of policy that should be implemented to facilitate the integration of handicapped employees. In the third section, the author explores the conditions of success of such a policy. Finally, the fourth part draws managers' attention to three management philosophy issues raised by disability. The analysis presented in the article is based on numerous testimonials provided by disabled individuals, their colleagues and managers, business executives and leaders of insertion organizations.
