Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explain the choice of private water connection by urban households in peripheral districts using micro data from Maputo (Mozambique). Using data from 880 households, and the Probit models, the results contribute to the literature on households' water supply in Africa. In particular, we show that the peripheral districts are heterogeneous and the private connections developed by the small-scale private operators are not yet used by the poorest households (income below one dollar per day per person).
