Abstract

L'évolution des campagnes bretonnes a été si rapide et fondamentale que les Bretons eux-mêmes ne parviennent pas à situer l'ampleur et la signification du chemin parcouru depuis une trentaine d'années. A lire certains manuels et quelques études décrivant la vie bretonne, on les croirait datés du milieu ou de la fin du 19e siècle ; pourtant, ils ne remontent qu'aux années 1950. C'est la même génération qui a connu les campagnes d'une région sous-développée, l'éveil prometteur d'un grand élan de développement économique et social, avant de connaître l'essoufflement de cet effort et les difficultés nées de la crise mondiale. L'objet de cet article est de resituer les étapes de cette évolution rurale avant de dessiner le champ des acteurs qui ont tenté de conduire cette mutation et qui sont affrontés maintenant aux défis de son dépassement.
