Abstract

L'agriculture française est confrontée depuis maintenant une dizaine d'années à une crise grave, qui s'exprime entre autres par une baisse tendancielle du revenu agricole moyen. Certaines exploitations, dans ce contexte économique défavorable, connaissent d'importantes difficultés financières qui peuvent mettre en cause leur survie. Cet article présente les caractéristiques des agriculteurs français en difficulté et analyse l'origine de celles-ci. Nous insistons tout d'abord sur les liens entre difficultés financières et évolution du secteur agricole. Des problèmes de méthode sont évoqués ensuite. Enfin une dernière partie donne les résultats d'une étude empirique sur un échantillon d'agriculteurs en difficulté et l'interprétation qu'on peut en tirer.
