Abstract

Ce livre raconte une histoire forte : l'échec de l'implantation du producteur de vins californien Mondavi dans le village d'Aniane en Languedoc-Roussillon. Au départ, tout le monde semblait gagnant, les viticulteurs comme la région. Au terme d'une fronde anti-mondialisation, réunissant écologistes, communistes, néo-ruraux et chasseurs, le Californien renoncera, illustrant ainsi la "victoire" d'une France terrienne qui "résiste encore et toujours à l'envahisseur". La force de ce livre est de mettre en scène de façon vivante les courants contradictoires qui traversent l'économie mondiale, en général, et la société française, en particulier. L'opposition entre vins industriels et vins du terroir devient l'illustration d'un affrontement plus global entre capitalisme "à l'anglo-saxonne" et corporatisme défensif "à la française". Une analyse sans concession sur les complexes d'Astérix des français.
