Abstract

Alors qu'il existe des preuves solides d'un déclin de la pauvreté absolue dans les pays en développement au cours des trente dernières années (Ravallion, 2016), l'analyse des données disponibles sur les inégalités de niveau de vie présente une image plus complexe et plus nuancée de leur évolution au niveau mondial. Les données disponibles montrent, d'une part, que les inégalités de revenu entre pays (inégalité inter) ont considérablement augmenté entre 1950 et le début des années 2000. Depuis lors, cependant, ces inégalités semblent avoir diminué (Milanovic, 2013) en raison de la forte croissance des économies émergentes comme la Chine, l'Inde et le Brésil. Parallèlement, les données recueillies au niveau national indiquent que l'inégalité des revenus au sein de certains pays (inégalité intra) a sensiblement augmenté, en grande partie du fait de l'augmentation ...
