Abstract

Capitale de l'exposition universelle 2020, Dubaï, situé entre le golfe Persique et le golfe d'Oman au Moyen-Orient, connaît depuis plusieurs années des projets architecturaux surprenants. Le contraste entre tradition et modernité trouve son expression dans un aménagement futuriste qui empiète sur la mer. En quoi les réalisations d'aménagement à Dubaï influencent-elles l'identité sociale et culturelle de ce territoire ? On est confronté à des valeurs éducatives en relations étroites avec le monde extérieur. Plusieurs entretiens menés auprès d'aménageurs, de concepteurs, d'architectes en charge de différents projets lors d'un séjour en février 2019 révèle une volonté d'affirmer une identité, de mobiliser un savoir professionnel et d'utiliser des compétences axées sur une recherche esthétique qui doit donner son empreinte au territoire urbain. Les nouvelles références urbaines sont à intégrer dans l'histoire régionale du golfe, à concilier avec une demande potentiellement mondiale qui fait l'originalité de cet émirat.
