L’approche en termes de régulation : théorie et histoire

Abstract

L'École de la régulation est l'une des principales branches d'économie hétérodoxe en France. À l'origine largement inspirée du marxisme, cette théorie entend périodiser le capitalisme en fonction des configurations institutionnelles qui l'ont accompagné. Dans ce texte désormais classique de 1991, Robert Brenner et Mark Glick font état de cette approche et en contestent les hypothèses théoriques et les observations empiriques. Ils tendent à montrer que les divergences d'interprétation des données empiriques reposent sur une conception différente des lois fondamentales du capitalisme. Pour Brenner et Glick, la concurrence capitaliste et les rapports sociaux de production permettent de mieux rendre compte de l'évolution du capitalisme que les élaborations régulationnistes autour des institutions encadrant le travail, l'innovation et les échanges.
