Abstract

A partir d'une étude qualitative reposant sur le récit de vie de trois personnes obèses et sur l'analyse d'entretiens semi-directifs auprès de soixante jeunes, cette recherche propose d'apporter un regard croisé sur la perception de la responsabilité de la personne obèse. Les récits de vie font apparaître une souffrance de la personne obèse qui se définit comme en dehors de la société, conduisant à une auto-mise à l'écart. Cette réaction est due à l'intériorisation de la perception du regard des autres. Pourtant, les perceptions déclarées par des personnes non obèses présenteraient des réalités plus diversifiées, selon que l'obésité soit considérée comme une maladie ou comme un trouble du comportement. La discussion propose des pistes de campagnes adoptant un regard empathique sur la personne obèse plutôt que culpabilisant.
