Abstract

L'article concerne les exploitations agricoles dites de grande culture, où la surface agricole est majoritairement occupée par des cultures de céréales, oléoprotéagineux, betterave sucrière, pomme de terre... à destination marchande. On n'aborde pas l'impact environnemental spécifique de ces espèces dans les exploitations où la majeure partie de la sole est occupée par des cultures (y compris céréalières) dont la production est consommée sur place par des animaux. L'article est organisé en quatre sections. La première identifie les tendances actuelles des principaux impacts environnementaux des exploitations de grande culture. La seconde tente d'expliciter les causes techniques et économiques de ces évolutions. La troisième explore les marges de manoeuvre et alternatives techniques susceptibles de réduire les dommages environnementaux de ces exploitations. La dernière section traite des politiques publiques susceptibles de favoriser l'adoption de ces techniques alternatives.
