Abstract

The economic dynamism of the equine sector has attracted occasional interest of the sociologist but the area so far has not become a major field of research. In contrast, little work has been done in the management sciences in this regard. This paper aims to study the characteristics of the equestrian entrepreneurial structure in France. We mainly focus on one particular activity, namely the training stables of racing horses. The companies studied are VSEs / SMEs with the following characteristics: a passionate manager, a sociologically closed economic and professional environment, a performance management that includes both financial and sporting aspects. The objective of our research is to answer the question: How do companies run by non-managers make strategic decisions?
