Abstract

The market position of architecture agencies often relies on opportunities rather than on strategic choice. In many cases, seizing those opportunities lead agencies to specialize in one or a few market segments. However, opportunistic specialization, if not strategically steered, creates a risk of internal skills gap. In turn, this skills gap generates economic and social performance loss for the agencies. Through field experiments, this research provides insights for improving the skills strategic management of the architectural agency in order to improve the adequacy between their internal skills and their market position. The research also shows the possible effects of this management on the organization's economic and social performance.
