Abstract

The objective is to investigate economic and environmental effects of information sharing between manufacturers, retailers and consumers. The qualitative, exploratory research aims at understanding: (1) the types of IS that can enhance economic and environmental performance of retail logistics, both in BtoB and BtoC processes; (2) how data quality improvement can support pooling strategies of retail logistics in order to reduce greenhouse gases emission? Based on the theorizing of cooperative modes in logistics, information systems typologies and data quality theories, 40 semi-structured interviews were conducted to identify different BtoB and BtoC processes for which information sharing and data quality improvement shave positive economic and environmental effects.
