Abstract

Cet article propose une histoire « quantitative » de la pensée économique en France à travers l'histoire de la structure doctrinale du corps des Professeurs d'université tenant une chaire d'économie politique dans les Faculté de droit de 1877 à 1969. Il reconstitue l'ensemble du corps professoral sur cette période, code chaque Professeur dans la classification proposée par Gaétan Pirou (doctrine socialiste, doctrine intermédiaire et doctrine libérale) et construit des graphiques qui montrent comment le poids des différentes doctrines évolue dans le temps. Il montre ainsi avec un .essai de grande précision comment les réformes de l'enseignement et de la recherche en économie politique faites par les opportunistes sur la période 1877 à 1897 et notamment la création d'une option d' « économie politique » au concours d'agrégation de droit ont profondément modifié la structure doctrinale des facultés. Les dépenses publiques des gouvernements de la république ont ainsi financé des cours et des recherches qui avaient une optique plutôt anti-marché et pro-Etat.
